Anatomy of the State

Anatomy is Chapter 1 of “It Takes a Criminal to Know One”. The book is one big surgical operation performed on a “Subject”, the state of Florida. I liken the system to a dreadful creature that is alive and suffering from a self-induced infection. Throughout the journey in the book, we analyze the “Subject” and explore ideas on how to cure it.

In the image, you see that the “Subject” is being disected and it’s organs are exposed. You have the Brain, Heart, Stomach and the Colon. They are laid out in the exact same pattern as the 4 regions of the prison system. An assessment is provided that relates the geographical setup of the system with the philosophical take on the regions and how each organ functions within a beast that is very much alive.
